A Message from the Principal

Welcome to CHIMO Elementary School - Home of the Chargers!

It is an honour to begin my fifth year as Principal of CHIMO Elementary, alongside Tracey Haley, who is entering her second year as Vice-Principal. Together, we are incredibly proud to lead a caring, dedicated, and innovative school community where students are encouraged to learn, grow, take risks, and develop a strong sense of belonging.

At CHIMO, our students, staff, families, and community partners work together to create an inclusive and welcoming school environment. We are proud of the many things that make CHIMO such an amazing place to learn.

Ten Things We Do Exceptionally Well at CHIMO

  1. We build a safe, inclusive, and welcoming school community where every student is valued, supported, and encouraged to be themselves.

  2. We are deeply committed to physical literacy, ensuring students develop the confidence, skills, motivation, and enjoyment needed to remain active throughout their lives.

  3. We provide strong literacy instruction, helping students become confident readers, writers, speakers, listeners, and critical thinkers.

  4. We celebrate reading by creating engaging opportunities for students to discover new books, explore different perspectives, and develop a lifelong love of reading.

  5. We focus on meaningful and responsive numeracy instruction, helping students build strong foundational skills, problem-solving strategies, and confidence in mathematics.

  6. We continue to improve student achievement. Over the past four years, our EQAO results have shown improvement in all areas, reflecting the hard work of our students, staff, and families.

  7. We listen carefully to student voice. Through our daily interactions, student leadership opportunities, CCMT team, anti-bullying initiatives, surveys, and school-wide discussions, students help shape the decisions we make.

  8. We proudly celebrate the arts. Our Celebration of the Arts showcases the creativity, talent, and dedication of our students through music, visual arts, drama, and performance.

  9. We produce outstanding annual school musicals, bringing students and staff together to build confidence, teamwork, creativity, and unforgettable school memories.

  10. We are supported by an amazing School Council, whose dedication, ideas, fundraising, and community involvement help create meaningful opportunities and experiences for all CHIMO students.

At CHIMO, we believe that student success includes academic achievement, physical and mental wellness, creativity, character, leadership, and positive relationships. Our dedicated staff work collaboratively to respond to the individual strengths and needs of every learner, while creating engaging and challenging learning experiences.

We are grateful for the continued support of our families and community partners. Strong relationships between home and school are essential, and we encourage families to stay connected, participate in school activities, and celebrate the many accomplishments of our Chargers.

We look forward to another exciting year of learning, growth, achievement, and celebration at CHIMO Elementary.

Together, we are Charger Strong!

Sincerely,

Sherrie Guthrie
